Episode 10: Kingston & Region partner-up with the Belleville Senators

Welcome to episode 10 of the Commissionaires podcast. 

Our Kingston & Region commissionaires recently partnered up with the Belleville Senators, the AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators. Starting tonight, over 20 commissionaires will provide security, and other services at the Yardmen arena in Belleville. We will be on-site at every home game  ensuring members of the Belleville community, and game-attendees are safe, secure, and have a positive experience.

CGL Ceremonial Unit wins The Canon Scott Trophy

On October 14th, the Commissionaires Great Lakes Ceremonial Unit was awarded The Canon Scott Trophy for their performance at the 2017 CNE Warriors’ Day Parade.

Marching units that parade at the Toronto Warriors’ Day Parade compete in various categories for trophies and plaques. The Canon Scott Trophy is awarded to the top Veteran Marching Unit of 15 or less on parade. The Ceremonial Unit was presented with a First Place Plaque on behalf of the Warriors’ Day Parade Council at their Annual Awards Banquet.

Commissionaire Alex Macleod receives ASIS Security Guard of the Year Award

Our Great Lakes Division's Warrant Officer Alex Macleod was awarded “Security Guard of the Year” during ASIS Toronto. The ceremony was held Thursday, October 19, 2017, as part of the Law Enforcement and Security Practitioners Awards luncheon at the Toronto Congress Centre, in partnership with the CANASA Security Canada Central show. This prestigious award recognizes the achievements and exemplary service of a front-line security guard.

Commissionaires BC – Celebrating 90 Years

The BC division, formally incorporated in 1927, is celebrating its 90th anniversary, today.

Episode 9: Password Security with Greg Richardson

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, although Cyber Security seems to be the buzzword of the decade. We took the opportunity to sit with our resident IT expert, Greg Richardson to go back to basics—password security.

Password security has been on our radar years, since long before the dawn of email, online banking and social media were even conceived, and we cannot ignore that ever-increasing risk to our private information. However, with everything requiring a password, it's easy to take our security for granted.

What a ride. It's been two weeks since we’ve returned from the iconic Games experience, and the rush is still with us. We spent the week scurrying around the city chatting with dozens of individuals about their experiences and gained a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for all of the competitors and their families.

Commissionaires celebrate O Canada!

Thursday October 5, the evening we’d all be waiting for—well, many of us, anyway. It was finally the book launch date of the highly anticipated, “O Canada! A celebration of 150 years,” at Ottawa City Hall.

The venue was elegant and there was the perfect amount of sweet and savoury snacks, alongside local wine and cheese. The room was abuzz with attendees including sponsors, dignitaries, and, of course, the people who made this project possible represented by Michael Curran and Kimothy Walker.

Invictus is more than an event; Invictus is a mindset

“I am.” That’s a very powerful phrase. These two words, “I” and “am,” together, followed by specific characteristics, give people the power to define themselves. The effect of this kind of mind-over-matter is not to be downplayed. It can deliver the strength you need to stand up when the world seems to be conspiring to keep you down.

The eight days of Invictus Games Toronto 2017 were packed with action, inspiration and emotion. It's hard to believe the 2017 edition of the Games is now over.

The crowds gathered to see the competitors arrive at the Air Canada Centre and the sold out stands inside the arena were loud and proud, cheering on everyone who participated in the games and the staff and volunteers who made the Games happen.
