Art Bannagan receives the Commissionaires Distinguished Service Medal

Art Bannagan joined the Commissionaires in July 2009 and was assigned to work at the G8 Summit sites in Barrie, Ontario. It quickly became evident that Art was a meticulous, well-organized problem solver who was willing to fill any role requested of him. Art was appointed second-in-command at the site, and his ability to foresee and plan requirements aided in his development of a strong relationship with the client. As the project grew and his Post Commander was reassigned, Art assumed those responsibilities.

December is full of surprises. It's a month filled with holiday treats, presents and Mother Nature’s favourite cat-and-mouse game, the ongoing “will-it-or-wont-it” regarding snow settling on the ground for the season.

This looming threat of winter divides Canadians-- the Winter-folk and the Summer-folk. Personally, I’m allergic to cold weather, and had the unfortunate-fortune of being born into this great country. Although I am extremely grateful to be Canadian, I could do without the -30 Celsius weather.

A full house at Hamilton Division's Annual Awards Dinner

Hamilton Division held its annual awards dinner on November 16. Eleven members were awarded Long Service Medals, three earned their first Long Service bar, and two earned their third Long Service bar. The final award of the night was the National Chair’s Commendation, the highest honour within the Federation, which was awarded to Gregory Noakes. Gregory’s life-saving actions that earned him this honour were featured on our blog earlier this year.

Episode 11: Remembrance Day in Northern Alberta

The days get shorter. The leaves begin to fall. You begin to spot red poppies on the lapels of Canadians. You know Remembrance Day is on the horizon.

Every year, ceremonies of remembrance are held across the country, each packed with emotion and patriotism. The Northern Alberta Division of Commissionaires is one of the many organizations across the country that volunteers time and energy to plan and oversee a large parade and commemoration.

Episode 10: Kingston & Region partner-up with the Belleville Senators

Our Kingston & Region commissionaires recently partnered up with the Belleville Senators, the AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators. Starting tonight, over 20 commissionaires will provide security, and other services at the Yardmen arena in Belleville. We will be on-site at every home game  ensuring members of the Belleville community, and game-attendees are safe, secure, and have a positive experience.

CGL Ceremonial Unit wins The Canon Scott Trophy

On October 14th, the Commissionaires Great Lakes Ceremonial Unit was awarded The Canon Scott Trophy for their performance at the 2017 CNE Warriors’ Day Parade.

Marching units that parade at the Toronto Warriors’ Day Parade compete in various categories for trophies and plaques. The Canon Scott Trophy is awarded to the top Veteran Marching Unit of 15 or less on parade. The Ceremonial Unit was presented with a First Place Plaque on behalf of the Warriors’ Day Parade Council at their Annual Awards Banquet.

Commissionaire Alex Macleod receives ASIS Security Guard of the Year Award

Our Great Lakes Division's Warrant Officer Alex Macleod was awarded “Security Guard of the Year” during ASIS Toronto. The ceremony was held Thursday, October 19, 2017, as part of the Law Enforcement and Security Practitioners Awards luncheon at the Toronto Congress Centre, in partnership with the CANASA Security Canada Central show. This prestigious award recognizes the achievements and exemplary service of a front-line security guard.

Commissionaires BC – Celebrating 90 Years

The BC division, formally incorporated in 1927, is celebrating its 90th anniversary, today.
