Reports To: Manager, First Aid Training

Responsible For: Delivery of First Aid/CPR Certification Instruction to employees and CNS clients

The First Aid/CPR Instructor is responsible for bringing knowledge and experience to the classroom, in order to deliver qualified, high quality and engaging First Aid/CPR instruction to internal and external CNS clients across the province at various locations.

This is a contract position that requires flexibility of time and scheduling.  CNS is seeking an individual who is able to be available on short notice to respond to client requests for training.

CNS is committed to working with the selected candidate to provide competitive hourly compensation, mileage reimbursement, all first aid equipment and supplies, and training toward certification in the areas of instruction to be delivered.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Delivering various levels of First Aid/CPR Instructions to CNS employees and external customers
  • Delivering instruction in accordance with established First Aid/CPR certified programs and course materials
  • Developing recommendations for curriculum adjustments to benefit clients’ learning, and to ensure efficient yet comprehensive understanding of the subject-matter
  • Evaluating participants undertaking respective instruction using established testing methodologies
  • Reporting to appropriate governing bodies regarding outcomes of training

Qualifications and Skill Requirements        

The incumbent must possess the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Excellent oral communications skills complemented by superior teaching methods
  • Prior training related to Adult Learning Styles and best instruction practices
  • Demonstrated high standard of performance, solid work ethic, professional demeanour, and customer-oriented behaviours
  • Previous experience delivery instruction independently in a formal setting, using prescribed course materials
  • Prior delivery of First Aid/CPR instruction is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality classroom instruction to diverse audiences of various sizes
  • An ability to deliver instruction/training to participants from varying backgrounds and industries (ie. private sector, students, government)
  • Willingness to travel as required.  Occasional overnight travel within Nova Scotia may be required
  • Reliable transportation, and a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s licence is required
  • Proven track record of punctuality, reliability and accountability
  • An ability to operate effectively with limited support/supervision
  • Familiarity with, and ability to effectively deploy technology (esp. MicroSoft Suite)
  • An ability to ensure learning using informative, engaging and relevant instruction techniques
