Commissionaires kicks off major recruitment drive with career fair, aims to hire at least 50 security professionals

August 11, 2021

Commissionaires is hosting a career fair next week to ramp up recruitment after securing a flurry of new business

Halifax, NS – Commissionaires Nova Scotia, the province’s largest and most trusted security provider, is kicking off a major recruitment drive with a career fair at the Sackville Legion (45 Sackville Cross Road) on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Commissionaires is seeking to hire at least 50 full- and part-time security guards for shift work across the Halifax Regional Municipality. It’s one of the largest recruitment drives in the company’s history and comes after Commissionaires has picked up a flurry of new business in recent months.

“Demand for security services is greater than it was pre-pandemic. The security needs of key institutions and infrastructure across the province have grown, so we need to grow too,” said Geoff Hamilton, CEO of Commissionaires Nova Scotia.

“We’re not setting an upper limit for the number of people we bring on – the more commissionaires we have, the more work we can handle.”

One of the company’s newest clients is HFX Wanderers FC, which recently selected Commissionaires as its Official Public Safety Partner for home matches and other events at Wanderers Grounds in Downtown Halifax.

The partnership employs about 40 commissionaires at each match, with the uniformed officers responsible for collecting tickets and ushering guests. It’s an excellent opportunity for Commissionaires to demonstrate its event services expertise.

A local not-for-profit, Commissionaires provides a wide range of security and safety services to more than 250 clients across the province, including Nova Scotia Power, Port of Halifax, the Province of Nova Scotia, J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport, Halifax Regional Police, Halifax Bridge Commission, and the Municipality of Halifax.

Commissionaires currently employs more than 1,400 employees across Nova Scotia, with roles spanning security guarding, remote surveillance, mobile patrol, threat risk assessment, bylaw enforcement, identification and fingerprinting, background screening, investigations, and safety training.

There are many perks to becoming a commissionaire, including competitive wages, health, drug, and dental benefits, life and accident insurance, annual loyalty awards, education assistance funds, and free uniforms, equipment, and training.

Interviews and testing to become a commissionaire will be conducted on-site at the career fair. Successful candidates may very well leave with a job offer and training start date.
