Art Bannagan receives the Commissionaires Distinguished Service Medal

Art Bannagan joined the Commissionaires in July 2009 and was assigned to work at the G8 Summit sites in Barrie, Ontario. It quickly became evident that Art was a meticulous, well-organized problem solver who was willing to fill any role requested of him. Art was appointed second-in-command at the site, and his ability to foresee and plan requirements aided in his development of a strong relationship with the client. As the project grew and his Post Commander was reassigned, Art assumed those responsibilities. His organizational skills ensured the shift supervisors were in receipt of all information required to allow them to fulfil their role.

Art’s coaching and mentoring style allowed the Regional Manager to focus on other areas of the G8 summit with complete confidence that the Barrie sites were in good hands. Art’s ability to deal with staff in an encouraging way aided in providing a positive environment for all who dealt with him. A letter of appreciation from one of his staff states “you are a respected leader by many…. because you show by example and do the work.”

In 2010, Art was transferred to Canadian Forces Base Borden to work in a Security Advisor role. The position primarily dealt with preparation for the numerous jobs that would require security escorts. Art quickly immersed himself in the new role, learning contract policies and procedures associated with Defence Construction Engineering Canada, and quickly became a subject matter expert. He was very diligent in finding reference information and ensuring that it was passed along promptly; on occasion he has brought up possible issues and problems which required a second look on the project.

Art Bannagan excels at all tasks he is presented with, and is a great representative of the Commissionaires. His exemplary service, leadership and organizational skills are key factors in the overall success of CFB Borden projects. Art’s dedication to the Commissionaires and its clients over the past eight years makes him a deserving recipient of the Commissionaires Distinguished Service Medal.
