The Atlantic Region's Commissionaires landed a $6.3 million contract with the RCMP for detention guard services. The one-year contract will provide guard services for prisoner detention cells at RCMP detachments in Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
The contract represents appoximately $1 million worth of work for Commissionaires in this province. Because it is part-time positions on an as-needed basis it's difficult to estimate how many people in Nova Scotia will be employed through the contract. However, CNS currently employs 75 people whose primary responsibility is guard services.
Commissionaires have held the RCMP guard services contract for the last two and a half years and is pleased to be able to continue providing these services. The RCMP has the option to extend the contract for up to two additional one-year periods.
