CNS Donates to Organizations Supporting Veterans

Each year, the Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) Veterans’ Support Committee donates to organizations that make a meaningful impact on the lives of veterans and their families. These donations reflect CNS’s ongoing commitment to its social mandate of supporting veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police. This year’s (2025–2026) contributions were presented by CNS Board Members, Deputy Commissioner (Ret’d) Steve Graham, Chair of the Veterans Support Committee, and Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Anne Espenant, Vice Chair of the Board.

Veterans Farm Project
Located in Windsor, NS, the Veterans Farm Project provides a welcoming space where nature and community come together. The farm supports serving and veteran women through sustainable agriculture, free workshops, and food donations to veterans facing food insecurity. The project’s “We Care” food packages are distributed through Legion Command to those in need. Steve Murtaugh accepted the donation on behalf of the Veterans Farm Project.

Paws Fur Thought
Paws Fur Thought pairs Military and RCMP veterans and serving members diagnosed with OSI or PTSD with certified service dogs trained at a centre in Concordia, Kansas. Since 2013, the program has successfully matched more than 100 service dogs with Atlantic Canadian veterans, providing life-changing emotional and physical support that fosters confidence, stability, and independence. Mike Gingell, accompanied by his service dog Quirk, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.

RCMP Veterans Association – NS Division
The RCMP Veterans Association is a dedicated community of former RCMP employees united by shared experience and service. The Association advocates for the rights and well-being of its members, offering support with pensions, insurance, health care, and benefits. Dan McNaughton accepted the donation on behalf of the Association.

Royal Canadian Legion – Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command
As Canada’s largest veteran support and community service organization, the Legion provides vital advocacy, assistance, and remembrance initiatives for veterans, serving members, and their families. Through the Poppy Campaign, commemorative events, and community programs, the Legion ensures Canada never forgets those who served. Tom McCormack accepted the donation on behalf of the Legion.

Commissionaires Nova Scotia is proud to recognize and support these organizations for their dedication to helping veterans thrive and for strengthening the communities we serve.
