For more than two decades, Commissionaires Nova Scotia has been helping commissionaires and their families pursue their educational goals through the CNS Educational Awards.
Established in 2002, the program reflects the Board of Governors’ commitment to supporting the people who make up our organization and their families. Each year, six educational awards are presented to serving commissionaires and family members of serving commissionaires who demonstrate academic excellence, dedication, and a commitment to their future.
Since the program began, the Board has awarded more than $167,000 in educational funding, helping recipients pursue studies in a wide range of fields, including medicine, law, business, education, nursing, engineering, and more.
This year’s recipients continue that tradition, with six students pursuing their education at post-secondary institutions across the Maritimes.
Meet This Year’s Recipients:
From Middle Sackville, Camden will attend Mount Allison University this fall to begin a four-year Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance. He is the grandson of serving Commissionaire Michael Gray of the HRM District.

From Dominion, Mai will attend Cape Breton University, where she will begin a three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is the daughter of serving Commissionaire Derrick MacDonald, who works at Victoria Park.

This year’s recipients also include four serving commissionaires who are continuing their own educational journeys:
From Halifax, Anisha has been with CNS since fall 2024 and will attend Dalhousie University to complete a two-year accelerated Nursing Program.

From Dartmouth, Manpreet has been with CNS since spring 2024 and will pursue a two-year Bachelor of Dental Hygiene at Dalhousie University.
Manpreet Kaur Kalsi
From Lower Sackville, Kathleen joined CNS in early 2026 and will complete her final year of a two-year Criminology program at Eastern College, earning a Criminology Diploma.
Kathlene Powell
From Halifax, Imran has been with CNS since late 2025 and will complete his final year of a two-year Occupational Health & Safety program at the University of Fredericton, earning an Associate Degree.
Imran Chana
The educational awards program is about more than financial support. It is an opportunity for Commissionaires Nova Scotia to invest in the goals and aspirations of our people and their families, while helping make post-secondary education more accessible.
The continued success of the program demonstrates CNS’s commitment to supporting commissionaires at every stage of their journey, both in their careers and in their personal and educational goals.
