Commissionaires New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island Division Board Chair, Past Chair, Governor and Director of Finance receive Distinguished Service Medals (CDSM)

The Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, presented four Commissionaires with Distinguished Service Medals (CDSM) during a June 8 ceremony in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

The Commissionaires Distinguished Service Medal was established by the Commissionaires National Board of Governors in June 1989 to recognize “distinguished service above and beyond the faithful performance of duty” which has not involved an element of bravery or personal risk by the recipient.

The June 8 recipients include, Brigadier General (Ret’d) Eric W.D. Goodwin C.D., Commander (Ret’d) Henderson C.D., Colonel (Ret’d) James (Jake) Bell C.D. and Director of Finance Vicky Magee.

Brigadier General (Ret’d) Eric W.D. Goodwin C.D.

Brigadier General (Ret’d) Goodwin, C.D. has been a volunteer Governor of the N.B. & P.E.I. Division since 2011. His role involves providing strategic guidance, directing outreach, and serving as a touch stone for the Division as it executes its social mandate to provide meaningful employment opportunities for veterans of the CAF and RCMP. He is the Honourary Colonel of the P.E.I. Regiment, and a founding member of the Friends of the Regiment and of their Regimental Senate. BGen (Ret’d) Goodwin contributed countless hours of exemplary volunteer service to various regional and national organizations in a number of leadership roles, and epitomizes the concept of selfless service to one’s community. He eagerly applies altruistic spirit and unfaltering leadership to each organization, and to Commissionaires, in particular.

Commander (Ret’d) Henderson C.D., is an active Governor and Past Chair of Commissionaires N.B. and P.E.I. Division. He was highly successful in moving the Division forward during his tenure as Chair of the Board of Governors. He continually sought optimum solutions, and effectively utilized compromise to ensure that the Division fulfilled its social mandate while remaining conscious of the emerging requirements for diversity and good governance. Despite the professional pressures of his vocation, he gave freely of his personal time and did not hesitate to engage issues to advance Division and Federation objectives.

 

 

 

 

Colonel (Ret’d) James (Jake) Bell C.D.

Colonel (Ret’d) Bell C.D. has been a volunteer Governor of the N.B. & P.E.I. Division since 2007. He served 22 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with operational tours in Germany, Cyprus, Former Yugoslavia and Eritrea, and 13 years with the Reserves with which he commanded the North Shore Regiment and 37 Canadian Brigade Group. Colonel (Ret’d) Bell has volunteered his time as a primary organizer for the Atlantic Region Soldier On Golf Tournament held in Moncton, New Brunswick. This major fundraiser helps support serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces to overcome mental health or physical illness and injury through sport and physical activity. His efforts and the support from a number of regional contributors, has helped the Moncton tournament raise more than $100,000.00 towards this cause.

Mrs. Vicky Magee joined the N.B. & P.E.I. Division in 2013 as the Director of Finance. Since her arrival, she has been responsible for the continued evolution of the Division’s financial processes and oversight regimes as an active member of the division’s Executive Team. Her achievements in the transition to a new financial environment have resulted from her dedication, many long hours in the evening and week-end work with the primacy of paying our Commissionaires the right amount at the right time, all the time. The Board of Governors recognizes her efforts and achievements with the presentation of the Commissionaire Distinguished Service Medal.
