GREATER SUDBURY—1 June, 2016. About 40 commissionaires have been contracted to provide uniformed security guard services at Health Sciences North (HSN), the result of an open competitive request for proposal process. Commissionaires are trained to respond and provide support during emergencies—from critical injury support and medical response to conflict resolution and incidents requiring police and fire intervention. Their regular duties at HSN include patrols and safety checks, systems monitoring and alarm response, personal safety escorts, parking and bylaw enforcement, patient support, and visitor relations.
About 220 commissionaires provide a range of security services across Northern Ontario, primarily in Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, and Timmins—but also at smaller contracts in communities such as Elliot Lake and Kenora.
Paul Guindon, CEO, Commissionaires Ottawa, says, “Across Northern Ontario, commissionaires are providing security guard services in or at airports, bus and train stations, colleges, construction sites, mines, military bases, and government buildings. While this isn’t our first health science centre, Health Sciences North has just become our largest client in all of Northern Ontario.”
“We look forward to this new relationship with Health Sciences North, doing our part to help ensure the protection and well-being of staff, volunteers, patients and visitors,” adds Guindon.
Commissionaires offers more than security guard services in Greater Sudbury. In 2009, the private security company opened an office at the Rainbow Centre to provide digital fingerprinting services, criminal background checks, pre-employment screening, pardons, investigations and threat risk assessments.
Known for its superior training and high employee retention rates, Commissionaires employs 20,000 private security professionals across Canada—many of them men and women who have served our country. The organization was ranked by Forbes among the top employers in Canada and is a repeat Consumer Choice Award winner in multiple communities.
