March 28th, 2018
In a March 23 ceremony at CFB Kingston, James Ostler of our Kingston & Region Division, received a Chief of Defence Commendation.
James was the Deputy Commander of the Canadian Armed Forces Task Force deployed on a Peacekeeping Mission to the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, from 2015 to 2016. This was a period of heightened tensions and a rapidly deteriorating security situation.
He was commended for his “calming influence, extensive operational experience, unparalleled commitment, [and ability to] instil confidence in the Task Force as regional security deteriorated.” He was also recognized for designing and eloquently implementing “North Camp defence fortifications and a new training standard applicable to all troop contributing countries.”
James’ wife Michelle was front and centre, a reflection of the importance of military families, as he received his commendation by MGen Hetherington, Commander, Canadian Army Doctrine & Training Centre with the Force Sergeant Major CWO Tofts.
It’s been a year since James joined Commissionaires shortly after retiring from the CAF. You may remember him from a video we posted promoting his participation in, and our sponsorship of, the Canada Army Run (see the video, below). His Leadership and management lessons, as well as skills learned and applied during this mission have been an asset to his day-to-day duties in the business of security services.
Congratulations on your well-deserved commendation, James.
