Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS)’s Veterans’ Support Committee donated $1000 to help Paws Fur Thought provide service dogs to veterans. Paws Fur Thought is a not-for-profit organization that pairs military and RCMP veterans diagnosed with OSI/PTSD as a result of their service careers. Paws Fur Thought is recognized and supported by Wounded Warriors Canada through their service dog program.
At Commissionaires, we understand the impacts of OSI/PTSD and the impact of organizations like Paws Fur Thought for the mental and physical wellness of our veterans.
Paws Fur Thought pairs 12 teams (handler and service dog) per year throughout Atlantic Canada. The process matches dogs’ characteristics with their handlers, creating a strong bond. Veterans can apply through the Paws Fur Thought website. The process can take one to two years. Intake is currently closed.
Each year, the CNS Veterans Support Committee provides funding to veteran organizations based out of Nova Scotia. This year’s funds were presented by committee chair, Steve Graham.
CNS’ support of Paws Fur Thought follows a recent donation to The Shearwater Aviation Museum. Learn more here: Shearwater Aviation Museum improves accessibility thanks to CNS Donation – Commissionaires.
