Experience and Enthusiasm: A Tale of Two Commissionaires

Within our diverse team of commissionaires, two individuals stand out for their unique status, journeys and dedication to their roles. Guy and Jackson share a commitment and passion for their work despite their age difference.

Jackson: Our youngest commissionaire

Jackson, our youngest commissionaire, is 19 years old. He is taking a year off from school to gain valuable experience and found his way to us through a family friend. Jackson has interests in both policing and engineering, though he is currently leaning toward a career in engineering.

His enthusiasm for the job is infectious. He enjoys engaging with different people at the entry gate of his job site, and his friends are envious of his role, eager to join him. Jackson has learned the essential skills of staying sharp and organized. His dedication and positive attitude make him a standout member of our team.

Guy: Our Oldest Commissionaire

Don’t let his age fool you! Guy is both our sharpest commissionaire and a site supervisor at 93 years old. His uniform is always pressed to perfection. He’s assigned to Service Canada, handling ID badges and fingerprints, and is well-known and well-liked by the staff. Guy’s commitment to his job is evident as he arrives 30 minutes before each shift to ensure everything is in order before starting his work.

Guy has an impressive background including service as a skilled shift diver in the Navy. His dedication to maritime service continued when he joined the reserve fleet, contributing to the storied legacy of HMCS Haida and HMCS Iroquois. He joined CGL in April 1994. Guy recalls seeing us on base in Nova Scotia, and, upon moving to Toronto, he reached out to our office, completed the paperwork, and started training two days later.

Despite contemplating retirement, Guy loves being a commissionaire, the camaraderie and being part of a company that gives back to the veteran community. Outside of work, Guy and his wife enjoy dining at their favourite restaurant, Times Square Diner on Wilson.

Jackson and Guy are perfect examples of the dedication and passion of our employees of all ages, a quality that makes CGL thrive. With the average age of our commissionaires being 45, these two unique stories highlight the diverse paths that converge on a shared commitment to service and excellence.
