Kind-hearted at his “Corps”: James Maillet of CGL awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers

On June 26th, 2017, Commissionaire James Maillet was awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers by Oshawa Mayor John Henry, in recognition of his volunteer work and dedication to community. The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers is an official Canadian honour that recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians across the country in a wide range of fields.

James Maillet has volunteered over the past decade with the Durham Regional Police Service (D.R.P.S.). Major contributions include installing car seats to ensure the safety of young children in vehicles, and collecting and distributing toys as part of the food and toy drives. James has also assisted the D.R.P.S. with the running of ‘Racing Against Drugs’ events, and assisting in the registration and torch run of the Durham Regional Police Services Special Olympics Team. Over the years he has also utilized a service dog on visits to special needs classes within the Durham District School Board.

Congratulations to Cm. James Maillet on this well-deserved honour.
