Story submitted by Johnena Finlayson & Security Team, Marine Atlantic
Marine Atlantic is a Crown corporation committed to the safety and comfort of passengers and their belongings on ferry routes between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Commissionaires continues to be the security provider at the Cape Breton site, coming up on 30 years. More than 20 commissionaires provide security services including patrol and alcohol testing.
Over the years, we’ve accumulated many interesting stories. Here’s one recent example.
On one of the daily checks of the new terminal building, a commissionaire came upon damage to a washroom. Commissionaires then began conducting hourly patrols logging the times of the checks of the washroom and looking for any other areas of damage to the new facility.
Several days later, more damage was found in the washroom. This continued over the course of two months while the security team tried to pinpoint the individual or individuals responsible through proactive monitoring. Commissionaires watched the areas in question very closely and managed to identify the responsible person who, in the end, confessed and paid Marine Atlantic for the damages.
The client was extremely happy with the commissionaires’ performance and vigilance in catching the person responsible.
“I am proud of the relationship Marine Atlantic has with the Commissionaires. To witness how far Marine Atlantic Security has evolved in the last 12 year I’ve been here, and the role the Commissionaires has had in that journey, is truly rewarding.”
