Renowned journalist Lisa LaFlamme appointed Honorary Governor of Commissionaires

TORONTO, November 12, 2025 – The Canadian Corps of Commissionaires has appointed award-winning journalist Lisa LaFlamme as an Honorary Governor.

Ms. LaFlamme has been at the forefront of Canadian journalism for more than 35 years. She was the first woman to anchor CTV National News and is the recipient of 14 Canadian Screen Awards, including the Gordon Sinclair Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, multiple RTDNA awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

“I truly believe in my heart that when someone’s military career ends, our responsibility to them as Canadians is really just beginning,” Ms. LaFlamme said at a recent event. “That is why I am so absolutely proud and honoured and humbled to have been named an honorary governor of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, especially during this historic centennial year.”

Ms. LaFlamme developed a deep respect for veterans during her assignments reporting alongside members of the Canadian Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq and during humanitarian crises around the world. It was while witnessing the highs and lows of military service that she became a passionate advocate for those who serve their country. Her commitment to veteran support aligns with Commissionaires’ foundational principle to create meaningful employment for those who served.

Prior to Ms. LaFlamme’s remarks at a dinner in Toronto, National Board Chair Gord Winkel presented Ms. LaFlamme with a certificate symbolizing her appointment, saying, “Lisa’s distinguished career has been defined by integrity, professionalism, and a dedication to sharing the stories that shape our country. These are qualities that reflect the very essence of who we are at Commissionaires.”

The Corps is honoured to welcome Lisa LaFlamme as an Honorary Governor as it commemorates a century service.
