Training and Instinct Saves a Life
Nova Scotia Commissionaires Harold Beazley and Danny Smith provide security services at a local Corrections Services Canada site. The location hosts federal offenders who are working on being reintegrated into society after serving prison time. Commissionaires’ responsibilities here require dynamic flexibility and sharp intuition where situations can change at a moment’s notice.
During a night shift, their specialized training was put to the test when a resident faced an emergency medical situation. Both Cmres Beazley and Smith immediately jumped into action to provide CPR, work alongside medical responders and law enforcement and ensure stability and calm were maintained among other residents and staff. These quick actions were instrumental in saving a young man’s life.
For this meritorious act, Cmres Beazley and Smith were presented a National Board Chair’s Letter of Commendation, presented May 16, 2017 by the Commissionaires National Board Chair, VAdm D.E. Miller, and CNS CEO, Bruce Belliveau.
