The Canadian Corps of Commissionaires and Veterans Emergency Transition Services (VETS) Canada signed a cooperative agreement aimed at supporting and increasing awareness of services available to at-risk and in crisis veterans.
Since its inception as a grassroots movement in 2011, VETS Canada has transitioned into a nationally registered charity, with an extensive network of dedicated volunteers from coast-to-cast and is recognized for its expertise in locating and helping homeless and at-risk veterans in need of assistance to transition back into a safe and productive lifestyle. Many VETS volunteers are former members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police. VETS Canada continues to grow and reach into large and small communities across the country from coast to coast. VETS Canada relies on the generosity of Canadians and corporate partners to sustain its 24 hours a day, 7 day a week, 365 days a year operations.
“The Canadian Corps of Commissionaires is pleased to support the goals of Veterans Emergency Transition Services Canada and to assist their team to increase awareness of services available to veterans in need. Established in 1925, the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires is a federation of 15 not-for-profit companies across Canada, with a social mandate to create meaningful employment for veterans. The Corps employs about 20,000 Commissionaires and we directly support veterans by hiring them. The relationship with VETS is consistent with our concern for the welfare of all veterans,” said Captain John Dewar, RCN(Ret’d), Chair of the Commissionaires National Business Management Committee.
“VETS Canada is honoured to have the support of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires and looks forward to working cooperatively with its members as we work to create opportunities for and eliminate homelessness amongst the veteran population. The addition of thousands of Commissionaires to assist us in making veterans aware of our services can only add positively to our mission,” said VETS Canada President Debbie Lowther.
