This 3.5-hour course is taught by an Indigenous member of our staff. This individual takes time to share with the students their experience in the Day School program as well as the effect of Residential Schools on his family and community. The effect and reality of inter-generational trauma is shared with the class and discussed at length. Students are invited to share their experience with Indigenous people and discuss perceptions, stereotypes and stigmas associated with Indigenous people. Students are also taught about the legal and social frameworks that apply to Indigenous people and what their effect has been on Indigenous people and communities. Students have reported that the course was informative and eye opening and that it has changed their views of Indigenous peoples and their lived experiences.
