We are hiring for a Bylaw Enforcement Officer for the Town of Petty Harbour/Maddox Cove.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforce the By- Laws for the Town of Petty harbour/Maddox Cove
  • Be knowledgeable of the Traffic Regulations and issue Traffic Tickets
  • School Zone traffic monitoring and patrols throughout the towns
  • Maintain a detailed log of all activities/situations/occurrences/emergencies
  • In the event of an emergency, life threating situation or criminal act (theft, vandalism, break and enter, assault etc.) observe and record all pertinent information and if needed give statement to Police
  • Assist residents with matters pertaining to the safety and security of the residents and their personal property. Be familiar with the residents through positive interaction while building a mutually respectful working relationship in the enforcement of the By-Laws
  • Challenge persons (politely and professionally) who appear to be of a suspicious nature and ascertain if they have a legitimate reason or authorization to use or be on the town’s property
  • Assist Public Works and Planning & Development Departments when needed
  • Ability to create and maintain documents in Excel and Word
  • Assist Fire Departments with Traffic Control

WHO WE’RE SEEKING

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Be professional, reliable and recognize the proper chain of command
  • By Law Enforcement background
  • Law Enforcement (Police, Sherriff, Correctional Officer)
  • Security or related experience preferred
  • Police Certificate of Conduct
  • Driver’s License
  • First Aid Emergency Level (1 Day)

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

The selected candidate will be professional and detail driven individual with a strong work ethic and “can do” attitude. Both physical and mental fitness is required. This often involves working in all types of environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night. 

Key qualifications and skills to be successful include but are not limited to:

  • Mental alertness with ability to:
    • React calmly, quickly, and appropriately in any crisis 
    • Concentrate and remain alert for up to 12 hours 
    • Demonstrate problem-solving and sound judgement
  • Superior attention to detail with very good verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Computer literacy, and/or an aptitude to learn is an asset
