Summary: Responsible to the CEO for the timely and effective management of Commissionaires South Saskatchewan’s Human Resources and Training department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following and any other duties that may be assigned from time to time:
- Responsible for the performance management of the HR and Training teams to ensure they fulfill their job description and display appropriate conduct.
- Manage and balance the department’s financial budget and projections, including awareness of the WCB and OH&S costs associated with the organization.
- Review, develop when required, and administer appropriate policies and procedures related to Human Resources management, Training, and Occupational Health and Safety to ensure organizational compliance through monitoring and intervention as required.
- Manage comprehensive Guarding related professional training programs that are compliant with Provincial legislative requirements and meet client needs.
- Develop professional development strategies for personnel to address gaps in knowledge and skill.
- Oversee and manage the Training Team to develop and update the curriculum to achieve best practice and instill high standards in our recruitment pool.
- Foster employee relations and minimize risk to the organization by proactively developing and maintaining a positive workplace environment that favors a direct relationship between management and employees and promotes communication and manages interventions.
- Manage recruitment campaigns and provide an adequate supply of staff to meet current and future operational requirements. Manage the HR team to administer recruiting and intake processes and an objective to ensures the highest quality employees.
- Maintain personal professional competency by participating in professional development activities and maintain links with the human resource community.
- Contribute to organizational strategic plan development and provide input based on areas of expertise to HR and training initiatives.
- Participate in national committees and provide divisional specific information to CEO for national input.
- Working closely and in collaboration with other Directors as a key member of the Senior Management Team.
- Actively support and apply environmental management measures to help meet the ISO 14001 certification of the Division, and help reduce the environmental impact of Commissionaires South Saskatchewan.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- Provide back up for the CEO during leave periods and any other unplanned absences.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for financial management, reporting, strategic recommendations and supervision of department staff.
Job specifications
Education and experience
- Business Management and/or Human Resources related Certificate or Diploma with a bachelor’s degree or above preferred.
- Experience teaching adults, or a certificate in adult education seen as an asset.
- Minimum of five years of related experience.
- Experience managing a budget over $100,000.
- Experience managing personnel.
Formal training/certifications/licenses
- HR designation seen as an asset, or equivalent related experience.
- Training and experience in public presentations.
- Conflict Resolution certification seen as an asset.
- Coaching certificate or course seen as an asset.
Required competencies/knowledge/skills/abilities
- Advanced understanding and experience with HR principles and policy compliance.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation related to employment, health and safety and human rights.
- Exceptional leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate staff.
- Knowledge of strategic Human Resources planning.
- Experience in developing and drafting policy and procedures.
- Experience with financial acumen.
- Strategic Planning experience and analytical ability.
- Security operations experience seen as an asset.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and ability to adapt to and learn new software.
- Advanced Communication skills both written and verbal.
- Extensive relationship management expertise, including ability to deliver constructive feedback, mediate and administer crucial conversations.
- Strong work ethic and a positive team attitude.
- The ability to triage and function effectively under strict deadlines with competing priorities.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, with the ability to instruct others accordingly.

Pay Range
$75,000 starting, depending on education and experience.
