Commissionaires Hamilton is seeking qualified candidates to add to their senior management team as the Director of Operations.  This dynamic role reports directly to the CEO and forms an integral component to the senior leadership of the organization.  The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

Education: 

  • A degree in criminal justice, security management, business management, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of relevant managerial experience in the security industry to offset this educational requirement.
  • Formal accreditation in security operations through ASIS or IFPO preferred, but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in security operations management, law enforcement, or military service in a leadership role is essential for success in this role.
  • Strong understanding of current security technologies and trends, and a high degree of proficiency in using software applications are all considered mandatory for this role.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is preferred, but not mandatory.

Skill Set:

  • Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to oversee security teams and training initiatives.
  • Ethics: Must possess the character, ethics, and sound judgment in order to achieve the highest levels of security clearances and to represent the organization on the local and national stage.
  • Motivation: Able to power exceptional results and stay solution-oriented and positive, regardless of the situation.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: High degree of proficiency required in these disciplines on a daily basis; “outside the box” thinker with creative intuition skills required.
  • Crisis Management: Expertise in crisis management, risk assessment, and implementing strategic security protocols.
  • Communication: Superior communication skills to effectively manage a team and coordinate with external agencies and clients; will be responsible for creating formal presentations, professional correspondence, and lead meetings effectively with stakeholders.
  • Team Building:  Both leading and being part of a leadership team; able to build trust and gain consensus, while still directing the day-to-day operations of the business.
  • Sales: Comfortable leading sales presentations with prospective clients.
  • Collaboration: Will provide support and interact with a national federation of peers.
  • Technical: Knowledge of security regulations and standards, and knowledge of security technology such as access control systems, emerging technology trends, and video surveillance.
  • Valid “G” Level Ontario Driver’s License: Clean driver’s abstract and access to own transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Operations team in the day-to-day requirements of over 200 employees and over 70 unique client sites, while ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to and strategic goals are met;
  • Negotiating contract revisions and renewals while being mindful of all financial considerations for our clients and our organization;
  • Creating RFP responses, formal briefing documents, and other professional presentations, as required;
  • Serving as an escalation point for all aspects of client support and troubleshooting;
  • Conducting performance reviews and ongoing support and mentoring of direct reports;
  • Working closely with the CEO on ensuring that the strategic goals of the organization are supported;
  • Occasional travel in support of organizational needs and opportunities;
  • Frequent travel to existing and prospective client sites;
  • Occasional after hours support of the organization;
  • Reporting on operational progress via formal and informal reports, meetings, and briefings; and
  • All other duties as they may arise.
