Position Overview

Commissionaires Ottawa has two excellent and immediate openings for Security Supervisors at two secure sites in Ottawa. These individuals will be responsible for ensuring that the Security Services run efficiently across several sites and for several clients. Reporting to the Manager Field Operations (MFO), the Section Supervisor is tasked with managing and providing leadership and direction to employees and coordinating the section security to ensure the safety of the facility, its employees, guests, tenants and clients.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Contract Management

  • Liaise with clients and the MFO to ensure personnel and equipment resources are available to fulfill contract requirements
  • Review and update on-the-job training plans
  • Ensure Work Instructions are developed and current
  • Ensure contracts are fully staffed with qualified employees and anticipate / forecast future requirements and update the MFO
  • Ensure proper health and safety guidelines of contracts are met and ensure related Health and Safety activities are completed
  • Identify potential opportunities related to client needs and inform the MFO
  • Co-ordinate logistical support for contract requirements

Personnel Management

  • Manage the effectiveness of assigned employees by providing leadership, guidance, and coaching
  • Counsel employees regarding performance, transfer requests, career progression and interpersonal conflicts
  • Actively participate in the staffing process; including interviews, as required, and selection through competitions and appointments
  • Ensure complaints, problems and requests are effectively resolved in a timely manner

Administration

  • Prepare and submit incident reports
  • Prepare and deliver staff communications
  • Coordinate, input and approve staff schedules in Commissionaires Enterprise Management System (CEMS)
  • Coordinate replacements for book-offs and update CEMS accordingly

Education & Technical Knowledge/Experience:

  • Post-secondary Diploma in a related field such as: Business Admin, Police Foundations, Operations Management or equivalent level of experience and/or education
  • 5+ years’ of supervisory experience with direct reports
  • Experience in managing and administrating contracts requirements
  • Experience or strong knowledge working with unions and collective agreements is highly desirable
  • Experience in contracts management and client relations
  • Formal leadership/management training preferred
  • Experience in producing timesheets, schedules and incident reports
  • Knowledge of employment standards, labour relations, Health & Safety and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
  • Knowledge of the security industry and facility management, experience in security operations is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience conducting Site Physical Security Surveys is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO quality management systems is considered an asset

  • A self-starter with demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, problem solving and negotiating skills
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail while setting priorities and following up on assignments
  • Outstanding communication and listening skills in English (French is considered an asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner
  • Able to use initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines
  • Possess strong planning, organizational and time management skills
  • Possess strong analytical skills and creative thinking
  • Ability to make immediate decisions, while maintaining composure, in emergency response situations with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple task, projects and issues
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain routine logs
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office suite and HRIS)

Other

  • Must hold, or be able to obtain a valid Ontario Guard Licence
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain a Secret level Security Clearance within 6 months of hiring
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret level Security Clearance
