THE ROLE: 

Commissionaires’ NL provides security services at the Avalon Mall. Avalon Mall has been Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier shopping and entertainment destination for over 50 years. The position is for a full time position, 24 hours of which are as the night shift supervisor Saturday and Sunday and the other 16 is as mall patrol position on Monday and Tuesday.The mall security supervisor, manages daily security operations, oversees security staff, and ensures the safety of visitors, tenants, and property.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Security Supervisors are the first line supervisors for the Avalon Mall Security Team. Security Supervisors have the responsibility to train, motivate and discipline personnel under their supervision.
  • Directs routine patrols of common areas, parking lots, and exteriors to identify hazards or safety violations.
  • Oversees CCTV monitoring and responses.
  • Responds to emergencies (medical, fire, security breaches and other emergency situations), conducts investigations, and interviews witnesses.
  • Manages, locks, and unlocks entry/exit points, particularly during opening and closing procedures.
  • Patrolling the Avalon Mall, interior, exterior and parking lots.
  • Responding to calls from tenants in the mall for theft and other issues.
  • Completing incident reports and gathering evidence from CCTV system.
  • Security Supervisors shall be accountable for the accuracy, legibility and thoroughness of all reports submitted by their subordinates.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate potential safety hazards, such as fire hazards or broken security equipment.
  • Responsible for the use and condition of security vehicle.
  • To assist with the preparation of Incident Management Plans. E.g. Evacuation, Fire, Flood, Lock Down.

  • Security Supervisors will perform other related duties as necessary and as specified by the security manager.

WHO WE’RE SEEKING

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires at least 1 year of security experience, with previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in coaching and supervising security personnel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with the public and staff.
  • Must know how to write security reports.
  • Proficiency in first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillators (AED) is required. 
  • Be professional & Reliable
  • Police Certificate of Conduct

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

The selected candidate will be professional and detail driven individual with a strong work ethic and “can do” attitude. Both physical and mental fitness is required. This often involves working in all types of environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night. 

Key qualifications and skills to be successful include but are not limited to:

  • Mental alertness with ability to:
    • React calmly, quickly, and appropriately in any crisis 
    • Concentrate and remain alert for up to 8 hours 
    • Communicate observed characteristics/behaviours 
    • Demonstrate problem-solving and sound judgement
  • Physical fitness with ability to: 
    • Carry out foot patrols and walk up/downstairs. 
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, leadership, and, emergency management skills.
  • Must be able to work alone if required
  • Excellent customer service skills
