Chief of Staff, Commissionaires

The Canadian Corps of Commissionaires is a federation of 15 separately incorporated not-for-profit Divisions across Canada. Commissionaires is Canada’s largest and oldest security organization, dedicated to creation of meaningful employment for veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and others who wish to contribute to the security and well-being of Canadians.

Based in Ottawa, the Chief of Staff is tasked with implementing a national business strategy and coordinating support to the 15 member Divisions. The Chief of Staff will also meet our mission by building strong relationships with key decision-makers at the highest levels within the Federal Government and national commercial clients. The Chief of Staff will also leverage those relationships to introduce Commissionaires‘ products and services and develop new opportunities for its members.

The Chief of Staff is accountable to the National Business Management Committee (NBMC), reporting through the Chair of the NBMC on a day-to-day basis.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the ability to build a strong team. They possess the ability to take conceptual direction, turn it into concrete recommendations and execute them as directed; and has a graduate degree in Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience in operational and strategic planning. Possessing a minimum of 7 years management experience within a complex matrix organization; the ideal candidate has the ability to contribute to strategy and policy development, and is able to build consensus across a diverse group of people to ensure a vision is implemented smoothly.

Security clearance at a Secret Level is required.

The ideal candidate should also possess:

  • Proven strategic planning and policy development capability
  • Excellent people management abilities
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
  • A track record of demonstrated leadership competence
  • Strong representational talents
  • Ability to coordinate efforts across organizations and with external development partners
  • Ability to build relationships with senior client executives and the 15 divisional CEOs.
  • (N.B. bilingualism and military experience would be definite assets.)
