Commissionaires NS is Named Not-For-Profit of the Year at the 2024 Halifax Business Awards

Commissionaires Nova Scotia, the province’s premier provider of security and background screening services, has proudly clinched the title of Not-For-Profit of the Year at the 2024 Halifax Business Awards. This recognition from the Halifax Chamber of Commerce is a testament to the impact of our entire team on the communities and clients we serve.

The road to victory was paved with a series of initiatives aimed at making a greater contribution to our communities. Over the past year, Commissionaires has taken strides to distinguish itself as a trusted partner to organizations that align with our mission and values, ultimately adding to our value for clients and making more of a difference to those needing support.

Some examples include:

  • our partnership with law enforcement to recognize and report human trafficking
  • our Every Child Matters campaign leading up to the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
  • our collaboration with the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia to host Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion seminars for our employees
  • our collaboration with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre to provide an Indigenous learning session to our employees
  • recent donations totalling $16,100 to support the local veteran community
  • funding $12,000 in employee and family scholarships
  • holding food and toy drives for charities, including Feed Nova Scotia and Adsum House

Commissionaires was selected as one of five finalists for the Not-For-Profit of the Year award in October. We were thrilled and honoured to join such esteemed company in our category: Shelter Movers Nova Scotia, St. John Ambulance NS & PEI, Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation, and GEO Nova Scotia.

Being selected as a finalist opened the door to a roster of Halifax Chamber-organized networking and promotional activities. From engaging in photoshoots and video sessions to attending receptions with fellow finalists, each moment was an opportunity to connect with like-minded businesses and recognize what we each bring to our province, city, and communities.

The Halifax Business Awards gala arrived quicker than anyone anticipated. This grand event at the Halifax Convention Centre brought together more than 800 members of the local business community. With the theme of the night being glitz and glamour, it was a truly electrifying atmosphere.

Every level of our organization – from commissionaire to CEO – was represented at our table. When the winner of the Not-For-Profit Award was finally unveiled, no one was more surprised than us. We did not expect to win, especially against such fierce competition. As we took to the stage in unity, it was clear that this achievement was the result of the collective contributions of every member of our organization.

This accolade represents a significant opportunity for Commissionaires in 2024 and beyond. It underscores our commitment to excellence and is a powerful reminder of the impact we have on those we serve. We sincerely thank our team, clients, and partners for their unwavering trust and support. Together, we have achieved something truly remarkable, and we look forward to continuing our journey of making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
